Is the H6S right for your work?

The H6S is the highest-resolution model in Guide’s Hammer II range. Its 640 × 480 infrared detector captures approximately 78% more native detector pixels than the H4S, providing greater detail when inspecting small or distant targets and more flexibility when reviewing, cropping or enlarging images.

Combined with 15mK thermal sensitivity, a confirmed 50Hz frame rate and interchangeable lens configurations, it is best suited to professional thermographers, utility teams and industrial inspectors who regularly work at distance or require the most detailed thermal output available in the range.

Well suited to:

  • Substations, switchgear and electrical infrastructure
  • Overhead lines, outdoor equipment and other distant targets
  • Small electrical or mechanical components inspected from a safe working distance
  • Solar farms and large industrial sites where targets cannot always be approached closely
  • Detailed predictive-maintenance and condition-monitoring programmes
  • Professional thermography reports requiring extensive cropping or large-format images

Consider the H4S if:

  • Most inspections take place at close to moderate working distances
  • 480 × 360 native resolution provides sufficient detail for your targets
  • You want a high-resolution all-rounder without paying for the H6S’s maximum detector resolution
  • Long-distance or heavily cropped inspection images are only an occasional requirement

Consider the H3+S if:

  • Nearby, general-purpose inspection forms most of your work
  • 384 × 288 native resolution provides sufficient detail
  • Minimising the initial investment is more important than additional image detail and cropping flexibility

Choose the right lens configuration

Lens choice determines how much of the scene is visible and how many detector pixels are placed on the target at a given distance. Wider lenses show more of nearby scenes, while narrower lenses provide more spatial detail on smaller or more distant targets. No single configuration is best for every application.

Need multiple lenses or a replacement accessory? Contact us before ordering so compatibility and any calibration requirements can be confirmed.

Fixed field-of-view lenses

Choose between a wider view of the scene and greater spatial detail on smaller or more distant targets.

Guide H6S wide-angle 44 degree lens

Wide-angle 44°

Best for: Professional building surveyors, HVAC engineers and industrial or electrical inspectors who need maximum image detail across large nearby targets, room interiors, switchboards or plant in confined spaces.

Benefit: Gives the H6S its widest view and shortest working distance while its 640 × 480 detector retains substantially more detail across the scene than lower-resolution Hammer II models.

Consideration: It places fewer detector pixels on small or distant targets than the 25°, 15° or 7° options.

Field of view: 44° × 33°

Minimum focus: 0.1m

D:S ratio: 833:1

Temperature range: −40°C to 650°C

Maximum-detail, responsive thermal imaging

The H6S combines a 640 × 480 native infrared detector, 15mK thermal sensitivity and a confirmed 50Hz frame rate to provide the highest native thermal-image detail in the Hammer II range.

Resolve small or distant targets

The 640 × 480 detector contains approximately 78% more native pixels than the H4S, helping separate smaller features such as terminal connections while providing greater flexibility when cropping or enlarging images.

Distinguish subtle temperature differences

15mK thermal sensitivity helps reveal small temperature variations between comparable components and developing thermal patterns against the surrounding equipment.

Scan and focus efficiently

The confirmed 50Hz frame rate keeps the live image fluid while scanning substation equipment or other distant assets. Manual, automatic, touch-to-focus, laser-assisted and continuous autofocus options help establish a clear image for measurement.

Generate higher-detail output

ApexVision S1 super-resolution produces enhanced thermal output up to 1280 × 960 from the camera’s native 640 × 480 detector, providing additional detail for review and professional reporting.

Guide Hammer II H6S FAQs

Clear answers to the most common questions about selecting, ordering and using the H6S.

Is the H6S the right Hammer II model for my work?

The H6S is the highest-resolution model in the Hammer II range. Its 640 × 480 infrared detector captures approximately 78% more native detector pixels than the H4S, providing greater detail on small or distant targets and more flexibility when reviewing, cropping or enlarging images.

It is particularly well suited to utility, substation, solar, industrial and specialist thermography work where targets cannot always be approached closely or highly detailed reporting is required. Consider the H4S if you want a high-resolution all-rounder but do not routinely need the H6S’s maximum native detail.

Which lens configuration should I choose?

Choose according to the size of the target and the distance from which it will be inspected.

The 25° Standard lens is the most balanced general-purpose option. The 44° Wide-angle lens suits large nearby targets and confined spaces. The 15° Medium-telephoto lens provides greater detail at moderate distances, while the 7° Telephoto lens is designed for small or inaccessible targets inspected from substantially farther away. The Macro lens is intended for very small components at a fixed close working distance.

TwinView DFOV configurations provide two selectable optical fields of view in one lens. RangeMax configurations are only necessary when targets may exceed 650°C. If you are unsure, send us the approximate target size and working distance before ordering.

Can I change or add lenses later?

Yes. The H6S uses interchangeable infrared lenses, but each lens must be compatible with the camera and correctly configured and calibrated for accurate temperature measurement.

We recommend ordering the configurations you expect to use from the outset. Contact Corey Technical before purchasing another lens so we can confirm compatibility, calibration requirements and availability.

What temperature range can the H6S measure?

Standard H6S lens configurations provide selectable measurement ranges of −40°C to 150°C and 0°C to 650°C, together covering −40°C to 650°C.

RangeMax wide-temperature configurations add a 500°C to 2,000°C measurement range. These specialist configurations are only necessary when target temperatures may exceed 650°C.

What is the difference between native and super-resolution output?

The H6S contains a native 640 × 480 infrared detector. These are the physical detector measurements captured by the camera and provide the highest native thermal resolution in the Hammer II range.

ApexVision S1 super-resolution can generate enhanced output up to 1280 × 960 for review and reporting. It provides additional visual detail, but should not be treated as equivalent to a native 1280 × 960 detector. Lens selection and native resolution remain important when inspecting small or distant targets.

Does the H6S require a computer or subscription?

No. The H6S operates as a complete standalone thermal camera, allowing images and radiometric video to be captured, reviewed, analysed and stored directly on the device.

Guide ThermoTools for Windows supports more detailed analysis and report preparation, while the FocusIR app supports compatible mobile viewing, transfer and analysis workflows. Both Thermotools and FocusIR are free to use. No ongoing subscription is required to operate the camera.

Is the camera supplied calibrated and ready to use?

Yes. All Guide's thermal cameras and lens configurations available at Corey Technical are prepared by Guide Sensmart and supplied with a manufacturer calibration certificate.

The H6S will arrive with a calibration certificate and inspection report, along with the batteries, charger, cables, SD card, carrying case and other standard accessories. It is supplied ready for professional thermal inspection.

If your contracts or quality procedures require a particular accredited or UKAS-traceable calibration service, contact Corey Technical before ordering so the requirement can be checked and quoted separately.

How long will delivery take, and will I receive an import bill?

Orders are dispatched directly from Guide Sensmart in China using DHL or UPS, with tracking and signature on delivery.

Available configurations normally arrive within 7–10 working days. Certain camera and lens combinations may require a 30–75 day lead time; the expected window will be confirmed for your selected configuration.

Corey Technical covers import VAT, customs clearance and related import costs. You will not receive an additional import bill on delivery.

What warranty protection is included?

The H6S includes a 3-year manufacturer-backed camera warranty, a 10-year infrared-detector warranty and a 2-year warranty covering the selected lens and supplied accessories.

Corey Technical manages the warranty process with Guide Sensmart, including assessment, repair or replacement where applicable. Contact us before returning any equipment so the correct process can be arranged.

Can I return the H6S if I change my mind?

Contact Corey Technical within 14 days of delivery if you wish to request a non-fault return. The camera must be unused, complete and in its original condition with all packaging and accessories. Returns must be authorised before anything is sent.

If a fault develops, contact us with the order number, serial number and details of the issue. Faults outside the return period are handled through the applicable warranty, without affecting any statutory rights that apply to the purchase.

Need help before ordering?

Tell us your application, target size and working distance. We’ll help confirm the most suitable camera and lens configuration.
