Is the PT650S right for your work?

The PT650S combines 640 × 480 native infrared resolution, ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and 50Hz imaging with the advanced controls and inspection workflow of Guide’s PT II platform. It is designed for professional thermographers, maintenance teams and engineers who need more native image detail when inspecting smaller components, working at greater distances or analysing images in greater depth.

Its interchangeable lens system allows the same camera body to be configured for different working distances and applications, including wide-angle, telephoto, macro and high-temperature inspection. TwinView configurations can also provide two selectable fields of view without changing lenses during an inspection.

Well suited to:

  • Electrical inspection of switchgear, distribution equipment and industrial installations
  • Motors, bearings, pumps, gearboxes and production machinery
  • HVAC, process equipment and building diagnostics
  • Preventive maintenance and condition-monitoring programmes
  • Professional thermographers who regularly need to resolve smaller thermal anomalies
  • Inspections where greater working distance or image-cropping flexibility is important
  • Teams that want a higher-resolution platform without moving to the PT870S

Consider the PT450S if:

  • Most inspections involve accessible targets at close-to-moderate working distances
  • 480 × 360 native resolution provides sufficient detail for your typical reports
  • You rarely need to substantially crop or enlarge inspection images
  • You want the PT II platform and interchangeable lens flexibility at a lower investment

Consider the PT870S if:

  • You regularly inspect very small or distant targets where maximum native detail is critical
  • Your work involves demanding utility, scientific or long-distance inspections
  • You frequently need to crop heavily while retaining fine thermal detail
  • The additional resolution provides a meaningful advantage for your inspection and reporting requirements

Choose the right lens configuration

Lens choice determines how much of the scene is visible and how many detector pixels are placed on the target at a given distance. Wider lenses show more of nearby scenes, while narrower lenses provide more spatial detail on smaller or more distant targets. No single configuration is best for every application.

Need multiple lenses or a replacement accessory? Contact us before ordering so compatibility and any calibration requirements can be confirmed.

Fixed field-of-view lenses

Choose between wider scene coverage and greater spatial detail on smaller or more distant targets. The figures below are specific to the PT650S.

High-resolution thermal detail for demanding inspections

The PT650S combines a 640 × 512 native infrared detector, ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and 50Hz imaging to capture detailed thermal evidence across utility, industrial, building and scientific inspections. It is designed for work where targets may be small or distant, subtle temperature differences matter, and dependable image quality is essential for accurate assessment.

Resolve smaller, distant targets from a safe position

Its 327,680 native temperature-measurement points provide the detail needed to assess connections, line hardware and other small components. Paired with the optional 7° telephoto lens and its 5,263:1 distance-to-spot ratio, the PT650S can place more measurement pixels on distant targets when moving closer is unsafe or impractical.

Separate subtle anomalies across complex assets

≤15mK thermal sensitivity helps distinguish small temperature differences between comparable phases, components and test areas. The 640 × 512 native resolution keeps individual features clearly defined within dense or complicated scenes, making abnormal patterns easier to isolate and investigate.

Preserve detailed evidence for analysis and reporting

Fully radiometric images retain temperature data for post-inspection analysis. ApexVision S1 super-resolution produces enhanced output up to 1280 × 1024, while dual 8MP and 13MP visible-light cameras record detailed supporting context for close review and professional reports.

Configure the system around each inspection

A 50Hz frame rate and five focus modes maintain a clear, responsive live view. Interchangeable 45°, 25°, 15° and 7° lenses, TwinView configurations, a 3× macro option and temperature measurement up to 2,500°C with the high-temperature lens allow one platform to cover specialist targets, distances and operating environments.

Guide PT II PT650S FAQs

Clear answers to the most common questions about selecting, ordering and using the PT650S.

Is the PT650S the right thermal camera for my work?

The PT650S is designed for professional thermographers, maintenance teams and engineers who need greater native detail when inspecting smaller components, working from increased distances or analysing and cropping images for reports.

Its 640 × 512 detector, ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and 50Hz frame rate make it particularly well suited to electrical systems, industrial machinery, HVAC/R equipment, building diagnostics and condition-monitoring programmes.

Choose the PT450S if most targets are accessible at close-to-moderate distances and 480 × 360 resolution is sufficient. Consider the PT870S when exceptionally small or distant targets, extensive cropping or the most demanding utility, research and inspection work justify 1280 × 1024 native resolution.

Which lens configuration should I choose?

The standard 25° lens is the best all-purpose choice for most electrical, mechanical and industrial inspections.

Choose:

  • Wide-angle 45° for confined spaces, plant rooms, building surveys and large nearby equipment
  • Medium telephoto 15° for smaller targets at moderate distances
  • Telephoto 7° for distant utility, substation, solar or industrial targets
  • Macro for circuit boards and very small components at a fixed 100mm working distance
  • High-temperature 25° for targets between 400°C and 2,500°C
  • TwinView 25° + 45° for switching between standard and wide views
  • TwinView 25° + 15° for switching between general inspection and greater stand-off detail

If you provide the approximate target size, working distance and temperature range, Corey Technical can help identify the most suitable configuration before ordering.

Can I change or add lenses later?

Yes. The PT650S has an interchangeable lens system, allowing compatible fixed-view, TwinView, macro and high-temperature lenses to be added as your inspection requirements develop.

Choose the lens you expect to use most frequently with the initial camera, then add specialist lenses when a new application genuinely requires them. Compatibility should always be confirmed before ordering because lens specifications differ between PT II detector resolutions.

What temperature range can the PT650S measure?

With a standard, wide-angle, telephoto, TwinView or macro configuration, the PT650S covers object temperatures from −40°C to 650°C across selectable measurement ranges of −40°C to 150°C and 0°C to 650°C.

The optional high-temperature 25° lens provides a dedicated 400°C to 2,500°C range for furnaces, kilns, foundries and other extreme-temperature applications.

General measurement accuracy is ±2°C or ±2%, whichever is greater, with accuracy up to ±1°C or ±1% under the manufacturer’s specified conditions.

How much detail can I expect from the PT650S?

The PT650S records 640 × 512 native thermal data, providing 327,680 temperature-measurement pixels in every image. ApexVision S1 super-resolution can produce output up to 1280 × 1024 for clearer presentation and closer image review.

Its ≤15mK sensitivity helps distinguish subtle temperature differences, while 50Hz imaging maintains a smooth live view when scanning equipment. The detail captured will also depend on target size, working distance, focus and lens selection; a telephoto lens can be more valuable than additional digital enlargement when inspecting a small, distant target.

What types of faults can the PT650S help me find?

The PT650S can reveal abnormal thermal patterns associated with:

  • Loose or high-resistance electrical connections
  • Overloaded or unbalanced electrical components
  • Overheating motors, bearings, pumps and gearboxes
  • Friction, lubrication and cooling problems
  • Abnormal compressor and HVAC/R operating temperatures
  • Pipework, insulation and heat-distribution defects
  • Building heat loss, air leakage and possible moisture-related patterns
  • Process equipment operating outside its normal thermal profile

Thermal imaging identifies temperature anomalies that require investigation; it does not determine the underlying cause without appropriate inspection knowledge and supporting checks.

Can I use the PT650S for professional inspection reports?

Yes. The PT650S captures radiometric JPEG images, radiometric video and visible-light supporting images, allowing temperature data and equipment context to be retained for later analysis.

Guide ThermoTools for Windows supports detailed review, measurement analysis and reporting after the inspection. The camera’s dual visible-light cameras, onboard measurement tools, annotations, 64GB internal storage and supplied 128GB SD card also help create a traceable inspection record.

The quality and validity of any professional report still depend on the operator’s competence, inspection procedure and correct measurement settings.

Does the PT650S require a computer or subscription?

No. The PT650S operates as a complete standalone thermal camera, allowing images and radiometric video to be captured, reviewed, analysed and stored directly on the device.

Guide ThermoTools for Windows supports more detailed analysis and report preparation, while the FocusIR app supports compatible mobile viewing, transfer and analysis workflows. Both Thermotools and FocusIR are free to use. No ongoing subscription is required to operate the camera.

Is the camera supplied calibrated and ready to use?

Yes. All Guide's thermal cameras and lens configurations available at Corey Technical are prepared by Guide Sensmart and supplied with a manufacturer calibration certificate.

The PT650S will arrive with a calibration certificate and inspection report, along with the batteries, charger, cables, SD card, carrying case and other standard accessories. It is supplied ready for professional thermal inspection.

If your contracts or quality procedures require a particular accredited or UKAS-traceable calibration service, contact Corey Technical before ordering so the requirement can be checked and quoted separately.

How long will delivery take, and will I receive an import bill?

Orders are dispatched directly from Guide Sensmart in China using DHL or UPS, with tracking and signature on delivery.

Available configurations normally arrive within 7–10 working days. Certain camera and lens combinations may require a 30–75 day lead time; the expected window will be confirmed for your selected configuration.

Corey Technical covers import VAT, customs clearance and related import costs. You will not receive an additional import bill on delivery.

What warranty protection is included?

The PT650S includes a 3-year manufacturer-backed camera warranty, a 10-year infrared-detector warranty and a 2-year warranty covering the selected lens and supplied accessories.

Corey Technical manages the warranty process with Guide Sensmart, including assessment, repair or replacement where applicable. Contact us before returning any equipment so the correct process can be arranged.

Can I return the PT650S if I change my mind?

Contact Corey Technical within 14 days of delivery if you wish to request a non-fault return. The camera must be unused, complete and in its original condition with all packaging and accessories. Returns must be authorised before anything is sent.

If a fault develops, contact us with the order number, serial number and details of the issue. Faults outside the return period are handled through the applicable warranty, without affecting any statutory rights that apply to the purchase.
