The Fluke Ti300U, Ti401U and Ti480U share the same rugged handheld platform, UltraFocus focusing technology, 25° × 19° standard field of view, IR-Fusion imaging, interchangeable lens options and SmartView IR analysis software.

The principal differences are infrared resolution, thermal sensitivity and temperature range. Choose the 384 × 288 Ti300U for dependable everyday inspections, the 640 × 480 Ti401U when smaller or more distant targets require greater detail, or the Ti480U for 50 mK sensitivity, SuperResolution images up to 1280 × 960 and high-temperature measurements up to 1200°C.

Choose the Fluke Ti300U for everyday inspections and radiometric video

The Fluke Ti300U provides 384 × 288 native infrared resolution across the same 25° × 19° field of view as the two higher-resolution models. It is the most cost-effective Ultra Series choice for routine professional thermography, while retaining fully radiometric video recording for investigations where temperature changes need to be reviewed over time.

Choose the Fluke Ti300U for:

  • Routine electrical panels, breakers, connections and switchgear
  • Motors, pumps, bearings and general mechanical troubleshooting
  • HVAC systems, plant rooms and building-services inspections
  • Targets viewed at close to moderate working distances
  • Recording fully radiometric thermal video for later analysis
  • Maintenance teams prioritising broad capability and value over maximum image detail

Choose the Fluke Ti401U for greater component-level detail

The Ti401U increases native infrared resolution to 640 × 480, placing nearly 2.8 times as many detector pixels across the same scene as the Ti300U. Its finer 0.68 mrad spatial resolution makes smaller components easier to distinguish and provides greater flexibility when inspecting from farther away or cropping images for reports.

Its thermal sensitivity and −20 °C to 650 °C measurement range are the same as the Ti300U. The reason to choose the Ti401U is therefore greater spatial detail, rather than improved temperature sensitivity or a wider measurement range.

Choose the Fluke Ti401U for:

  • Dense electrical cabinets containing smaller components
  • Switchgear, substations, utilities and production equipment
  • Detailed preventive-maintenance inspections across larger facilities
  • Smaller or more distant targets that cannot be approached closely
  • Reports where sharper images and greater cropping flexibility matter

Important: the Ti401U does not offer thermal or visible-light video recording. Choose the Ti300U or Ti480U if fully radiometric video is required.

Choose the Fluke Ti480U for subtle differences and high-temperature work

The Ti480U combines the Ti401U’s 640 × 480 native resolution with improved 50 mK thermal sensitivity, 1280 × 960 SuperResolution, fully radiometric video recording and an extended measurement range reaching 1200 °C.

It is the strongest Ultra Series model for demanding investigations where fine thermal contrast, high process temperatures or recorded temperature changes could materially affect the diagnosis.

Choose the Fluke Ti480U for:

  • Critical electrical and mechanical assets where subtle anomalies matter
  • Process equipment, furnaces and other high-temperature targets
  • Complex machinery and investigations involving small thermal differences

What do the resolution differences mean in practice?

All three cameras use a 25° × 19° standard lens (and have the same lens variants available), so they capture approximately the same area when used from the same position.

The difference is how much thermal information is recorded within that view:

  • Ti300U: 384 × 288 - 110,592 measurement pixels
  • Ti401U and Ti480U: 640 × 480 - 307,200 measurement pixels

The Ti401U and Ti480U therefore place nearly 2.8 times as many measurement pixels across the target. This can make individual connections, components and thermal patterns easier to distinguish, particularly at longer working distances.

What does the sensitivity difference mean?

The Ti300U and Ti401U have a specified thermal sensitivity of 75 mK, while the Ti480U improves this to 50 mK.

The Ti480U can distinguish finer temperature differences, producing smoother thermal patterns and clearer separation between areas with similar temperatures. This is most valuable when investigating subtle heat transfer, early-stage faults, insulation performance or complex machinery - not simply when locating an obvious hot connection.

When should you add an optional lens?

All three Ultra Series cameras accept interchangeable lenses that are automatically recognised by the camera:

  • 44° × 34° wide-angle lens: for large nearby targets, confined spaces, plant rooms and building interiors
  • 12° × 9° 2× telephoto lens: for smaller targets inspected from farther away
  • 7° × 5° 4× telephoto lens: for distant components such as elevated connections, outdoor switchgear, overhead services and inaccessible machinery

Choose the lens according to the smallest target you must measure and the distance from which you can safely inspect it. Digital zoom enlarges the displayed image but does not replace the measurement detail gained from the appropriate optical lens.
