Standalone operation
The E86 operates as a standalone professional thermal imaging camera. You can capture, review, annotate and store thermal images directly on the camera without connecting to a computer during the inspection.
Images are saved as radiometric files with temperature measurement data, so findings can be reviewed, analysed and reported after the inspection.
Analysis and reporting software
FLIR Thermal Studio Suite provides desktop tools for reviewing thermal images, analysing temperature measurements and preparing inspection reports. Available features depend on the selected software edition and licence.
For cloud-based image storage and sharing, the E86 supports FLIR Ignite through Wi-Fi connectivity. Images can be uploaded from the camera to help keep inspection files organised and easier to share with colleagues or customers.
Inspection routes and on-camera reporting
The E86 supports FLIR Inspection Route, helping maintenance teams follow planned inspection points and keep records organised by asset. This is useful for repeat checks across panels, plant rooms, motors, pumps and building-services equipment.
On-camera reporting tools include voice annotation, GPS tagging, on-screen text and sketch notes, helping you add context to inspection images before they reach the reporting stage.
METERLiNK
FLIR METERLiNK allows readings from compatible FLIR test and measurement instruments to be used alongside your thermal inspection data via Bluetooth. Depending on the connected instrument, these can include electrical measurements or environmental readings.
Combining measurement data with thermal findings gives clearer context for fault assessment and reporting. A compatible FLIR instrument is required and supplied separately.
Software accounts, licences or subscriptions may be required for particular apps and services.

The FLIR E86 is built for industrial maintenance teams, electrical inspectors, reliability engineers and specialist contractors who need more native detail than the E76 while retaining interchangeable lenses and fast focus options.
Its 464 × 348 thermal detector, AutoCal lens compatibility, MSX and 1500°C upper measurement range make it well suited to complex equipment, smaller components and demanding inspection programmes. It is a strong choice when thermal findings need to support decisions about maintenance priority and asset condition.

Quick lens selector
Standard lens 24°
The everyday all-round choice
Choose this for mixed electrical, mechanical and facilities inspections. It balances scene coverage and target detail, and its 24° × 18° field of view suits general-purpose work.
Wide-angle 42°
For larger targets and wider scenes
Choose this to capture more of a building, roof, plant room or large piece of equipment in one image. It’s useful when you can’t step farther back, though it puts fewer detector pixels on a given target than a narrower lens.
Telephoto lens 14°
For smaller or more distant targets
Choose this when you need more image detail on a target that is far away, elevated or unsafe to approach, such as overhead connections or distant electrical equipment.
Ultra-wide lens 80°
For very wide scenes and restricted spaces
Choose this to capture a large area from close range. For the widest view, with less spatial detail on small targets; the camera’s visual camera and LED lamp are disabled while this lens is in use.
FlexView lens 24°/14°
Switch between standard and telephoto views
Choose this when you regularly move between general inspections and smaller or more distant targets. Switch between 24° and 14° at the lens, without removing it.
FlexView lens 42°/24°
Switch between wide-area and standard views
Choose this for large equipment or building surveys where you also need a standard view for closer inspection. Switch between 42° and 24° at the lens.
Use the horizontal scrollbar below the table to compare lenses. The row names stay visible as you move across. Scroll vertically to continue down the page.

The FLIR E86 combines 464 × 348 infrared resolution, interchangeable lenses, autofocus, MSX and measurement ranges reaching 1500°C. It is designed for inspection work where equipment is complex, access varies and image detail matters to the diagnosis.
What is MSX?
MSX adds visible-light outlines to the thermal image. This helps the inspector and the report reader recognise the component associated with a heat pattern.
Resolve smaller details
With 161,472 native thermal pixels, the E86 captures more detail than the E76. That is useful when inspecting compact electrical components or identifying the location of an anomaly within complex machinery.
Adapt the lens and focus
AutoCal lens choices cover distant, standard and wide-area views. Laser-assisted autofocus helps when moving between inspection points; manual focus remains available for precise control.
Inspect hotter assets
Its ranges are −20°C to 120°C, 0°C to 650°C and 300°C to 1500°C. Select the appropriate range for the equipment and working conditions.
Build usable inspection records
Inspection Route, annotations, FLIR Ignite and Thermal Studio support repeat checks, image organisation and clear communication of findings.
