Is the PT450S right for your work?

The PT450S combines 480 × 360 native infrared resolution, ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and 50Hz imaging with the advanced controls and inspection workflow of Guide’s PT II platform. It is best suited to professional teams inspecting accessible electrical, mechanical, HVAC and building assets at close-to-moderate working distances.

Its interchangeable lens system allows the same camera body to be configured for large nearby areas, smaller or more distant targets, close-up components and high-temperature equipment. TwinView configurations can also provide two selectable fields of view without changing lenses during the inspection.

Well suited to:

  • Electrical panels, switchgear and distribution equipment
  • Motors, bearings, pumps and production machinery
  • HVAC systems, plant rooms and building diagnostics
  • Preventive-maintenance and condition-monitoring surveys
  • Professional thermographers working across varied applications
  • Teams that need wide-angle, telephoto, macro or high-temperature capability from one camera platform

Consider the PT650S if:

  • Small or distant targets form a regular part of your work
  • Inspection images frequently require substantial cropping or enlargement
  • You want approximately 90% more native detector pixels while retaining the same PT II workflow and lens flexibility

Consider the PT870S if:

  • Native megapixel thermal resolution is required
  • Your work involves critical, long-distance, utility or scientific inspections
  • Maximum image detail and cropping flexibility justify the additional investment

Choose the right lens configuration

Lens choice determines how much of the scene is visible and how many detector pixels are placed on the target at a given distance. Wider lenses show more of nearby scenes, while narrower lenses provide more spatial detail on smaller or more distant targets. No single configuration is best for every application.

Need multiple lenses or a replacement accessory? Contact us before ordering so compatibility and any calibration requirements can be confirmed.

Fixed field-of-view lenses

Choose between wider scene coverage and greater spatial detail on smaller or more distant targets. The figures below are specific to the PT450S.

Guide PT II PT450S FAQs

Clear answers to the most common questions about selecting, ordering and using the PT450S.

Is the PT450S the right thermal camera for my work?

The PT450S is designed for professionals carrying out electrical, mechanical, industrial and maintenance inspections who need detailed thermal images, accurate temperature measurements and the flexibility of interchangeable lenses. Its 480 × 360 infrared resolution, 15mK thermal sensitivity and 50Hz frame rate make it well suited to inspecting equipment such as electrical systems, motors, pumps, bearings, machinery, HVAC equipment and other industrial assets.

If you regularly need to resolve smaller targets at greater distances, the PT650S provides a higher 640 × 512 infrared resolution. For demanding inspections where maximum image detail and long-range target identification are critical, the PT870S offers 1280 × 1024 resolution.

Which lens configuration should I choose?

The best configuration depends on the equipment you inspect and the distances you typically work from. The standard lens is a versatile choice for general industrial and electrical inspections. Wide-angle lenses are useful when you need to capture large equipment or confined spaces, while medium telephoto and telephoto lenses provide greater detail when inspecting smaller or more distant targets.

The PT450S also supports macro, TwinView DFOV and high-temperature lens options, allowing the camera to be configured around your particular inspection requirements.

Can I change or add lenses later?

Yes. The PT450S uses an interchangeable-lens system, so you are not locked into the lens configuration you purchase initially. Additional lenses can be added later as your inspection requirements develop, allowing one camera to cover a wider range of applications.

Contact Corey Technical before purchasing another lens so we can confirm compatibility, calibration requirements and availability.

What temperature range can the PT450S measure?

The PT450S measures from -40°C to 150°C and 0°C to 650°C, with automatic switching between measurement ranges. An optional high-temperature lens extends measurement capability to 2500°C for suitable high-temperature applications.

These specialist configurations are only necessary when target temperatures may exceed 650°C.

How much detail can I expect from the PT450S?

The PT450S has a 480 × 360 infrared detector and can produce super-resolution images up to 960 × 720. Its 15mK thermal sensitivity helps reveal relatively small temperature differences, while the 50Hz frame rate provides a fluid live thermal image when scanning equipment.

What types of faults can the PT450S help me find?

The PT450S can help identify abnormal heat patterns associated with electrical and mechanical problems, including overheating connections, unevenly loaded components, motor abnormalities, bearing issues, pump problems and other developing faults.

Thermal imaging does not by itself diagnose the cause of every fault, but it gives you temperature information that can help identify abnormalities quickly and decide where further investigation or maintenance is required.

Can I use the PT450S for professional inspection reports?

Yes. The PT450S stores thermal images with temperature information and is compatible with Guide's ThermoTools PC software and FocusIR mobile software for image analysis and reporting. This allows captured inspections to be reviewed and analysed after the site visit.

Does the PT450S require a computer or subscription?

No. The PT450S operates as a complete standalone thermal camera, allowing images and radiometric video to be captured, reviewed, analysed and stored directly on the device.

Guide ThermoTools for Windows supports more detailed analysis and report preparation, while the FocusIR app supports compatible mobile viewing, transfer and analysis workflows. Both Thermotools and FocusIR are free to use. No ongoing subscription is required to operate the camera.

Is the camera supplied calibrated and ready to use?

Yes. All Guide's thermal cameras and lens configurations available at Corey Technical are prepared by Guide Sensmart and supplied with a manufacturer calibration certificate.

The PT450S will arrive with a calibration certificate and inspection report, along with the batteries, charger, cables, SD card, carrying case and other standard accessories. It is supplied ready for professional thermal inspection.

If your contracts or quality procedures require a particular accredited or UKAS-traceable calibration service, contact Corey Technical before ordering so the requirement can be checked and quoted separately.

How long will delivery take, and will I receive an import bill?

Orders are dispatched directly from Guide Sensmart in China using DHL or UPS, with tracking and signature on delivery.

Available configurations normally arrive within 7–10 working days. Certain camera and lens combinations may require a 30–75 day lead time; the expected window will be confirmed for your selected configuration.

Corey Technical covers import VAT, customs clearance and related import costs. You will not receive an additional import bill on delivery.

What warranty protection is included?

The PT450S includes a 3-year manufacturer-backed camera warranty, a 10-year infrared-detector warranty and a 2-year warranty covering the selected lens and supplied accessories.

Corey Technical manages the warranty process with Guide Sensmart, including assessment, repair or replacement where applicable. Contact us before returning any equipment so the correct process can be arranged.

Can I return the PT450S if I change my mind?

Contact Corey Technical within 14 days of delivery if you wish to request a non-fault return. The camera must be unused, complete and in its original condition with all packaging and accessories. Returns must be authorised before anything is sent.

If a fault develops, contact us with the order number, serial number and details of the issue. Faults outside the return period are handled through the applicable warranty, without affecting any statutory rights that apply to the purchase.
